Income Generation

Economic development is recognized as the corner-stone of overall development. Economic status is taken as the indicator of rural well-being. Most of the rural people have less access in education, health, entertainment, security and dignity because of economic poverty. GYC recognizes assistance for economic prosperity of rural people as its one of the major social responsibilities.  

GYC has facilitated micro-credit program at Lekhaani VDC in cooperation with Bhimapohara Youth Club (BYC) in 1997.  

The organization has provided training on bee-keeping and account management for 12 farmers in partnership with District Cottage and Small Industries Office (DCSIO).  

GYC has initiated in establishing and functioning Gaja Saving and Credit Cooperative Limited in 1999. It was initiated by 107 share-holders where 900 members are affiliated as share-holder. Similarly, GYC has facilitated for formation of women groups and cooperatives in Bihun, Tangraam and Lekhaani VDCs of Baglung District in assistance of Embassy of Finland.

  

Skill-based training and material support

Skill is one of the determinants of social status and prosperity. It directly assists in enhancing economic condition of an individual. Aiming to assist in livelihood enhancement through skill-based training, GYC has assisted the local youths to participate in the training on Village Animal Health Worker (VAHW) in 1998. In the same way, GYC hass assisted three local youths of Bihun, Tangraam and Lekhani VDCs of Baglung to participate in VAHW training in 2004.

  Assistance for skill development training was continued in collaboration of DCSIO for training on cutting-sewing, carpentry and weaving the bamboo stool. 

  Similarly, GYC has made support for improvement of anvil; and provided improved machine for poor blacksmiths at Lekhaani and Bihun VDC of Baglung.

 

Goat Raising, Goat Gift and Health-Camp Program

Goat raising is one of the successful income-generating activities in the rural areas of Nepal. It is widely accepted in all the casts and ethnic groups in Western Hilly Region. GYC has provided 30 goats for the poor families of Lehani 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 wards. Correspondingly, GYC has provided 50 mother-goats to the Dalit families of Maalikaa Village and Baglung Municipality-7 in 2001 in collaboration with District Livestock Office (DLSO) and assistance of Third Livestock Development Project. Similarly, 200 mother goats were distributed to 100 poor farmers at Lekhani VDC of Baglung in 2000 AD.   98 farmers were directly benefited from dung-test program at Lekhani in 1998, conducted in assistance of DLSO Baglung.

 

Distribution of saplings; production of fresh vegetable and quality seed

Livelihood enhancement and environmental promotion through sustainable use of the resources is one of the areas of concern of GYC. Being reminiscent to it, GYC has distributed 450 saplings of cardamoms and oranges in collaboration with Agriculture Service Sub-centre at Bihun VDC of Baglung. Alike it, the saplings of forage were provided to the farmers of Lekhaani VDC in alliance of District Forest Office (DFO). 

GYC has instigated program for production of fresh vegetable and quality seeds for the women of Bihun, Tangraam and Lekhaani VDC of Baglung in 2007 AD. This program was initiated in assistance of of the Embassy of Finland. Training for the farmers, post-training and technical assistance, market linkage and formation of farmers' groups were some of the activities carried out under the program.
