Health and sanitation is one of the major areas of concern. Poor sanitation condition is the cause of about 60 of the communicable diseases in Nepal. According to UNICEF, nearly 12 thousand children die per year in Nepal due to the water-borne diseases.
Hundred of people die due to cholera and diarrhoea during the rainy season in Nepal. Hundreds of million is expended and productive time is spent due to the illness. 
Taking the fact into account, GYC has been implementing programs in health, hygiene and sanitation since its establishment. A workshop on environmental sanitation was organized at Lekhaani VDC of Baglung in 1997. Similarly, a campaign on uses of iodized salt was organized at Lekhaani and Bihun VDC in 1998. GYC has organized training on sanitation at Bhakunde, Tangraam, Dhamjaa and Lekhaani VDC of Baglung in 2001 in cooperation with District Drinking Water Office.
Training on safe motherhood was organized for the members of women's groups in 2003 at Baglung District in partnership with safe motherhood project. In the same year, health camps were organized at Naaraayansthaan, Amalaachaur, Kushmisheraa, Paalaa and Singaanaa VDCs. Nearly two thousand school children were directly benefited. This program has been continuingly organized since the period.
Water and sanitation
GYC has been implementing different programs on water and sanitation in collaboration with GOs and INGOs.
Program on water, health education and sanitation was implemented in Hatiyaa VDC of Baglung in collaboration with Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) in 2000. 128 latrins, 23 tap stands and 5 distribution tanks were constructed under the project. 158 households were directly benefited from the program.
The program was extended to Hatiyaa VDC in 2001. 85 latrines, 8 tap stands and 2 tanks were constructed under the program. 625 latrines were constructed in 2003 in Bihun VDC; whereas 60 latrines, 1 intake, 1 reservoir tank and 11 tap stands were constructed in 2007 in collaboration with NEWAH.
Water, health education and sanitation program was implemented at Gwaalichaur VDC of Baglung in 2008/2009. 47 latrines, 1 intake, 1 reservoir tank and 9 tap stands were constructed; and campaign on household and environmental sanitation was conducted under the program.
GYC has been implementing water, sanitation and health program at Chhisti VDC of Baglung since 2010 in association with District Development Committee Baglung. Although, poor and marginalized people are the primary focused beneficiaries of WASH program initiated by RWSSP-WN, all the households of the program VDCs are benefited from the program. Identification and prioritization of local needs, pre-feasibility study, social and technical study, household survey, preparation of social resource map, well-being ranking, information collection on income generation, detailed survey and estimation of the prioritized needs/programs selected by VDC level WASH committee are some of the activities carried under the program. GYC has been facilitating for declaring Chhisti VDC 'Open Defecation Free-ODF'. 115 households are directly benefited from Phurkesallaa Drinking Water Scheme.
Assistance for construction and maintenance of latrines
GYC has extended its program in health and sanitation sector since 1998 making support for skilled human resource and purchasing of external materials to construct 14 latrines in Lekhaani VDC. In the same year, GYC has made
assistance for construction of toilet at community building of Lekhaani. Similarly, support was made to 25 poor dalit families for construction of latrines in collaboration with American volunteer.
GYC has conducted orientation campaign on hygiene and sanitation in Bhakunde, Dhamjaa and Lekhani VDC covering 691 households. This program was conducted in partnership with District Drinking Water Office, Baglung. GYC has made assistance for construction of public latrine building in Bihun, Lekhaani and Tangraam VDC in collaborative effort with Embassy of Finland and Caritas Nepal in 2004.
GYC has made partnership with Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) in 2010 for conducting trainings on hygiene and sanitation, construction of latrine building and formation of sanitation committees in ward level of Bhimapokhaaraa VDC. Similarly, social campaign on health and sanitation was carried out by GYC in partnership with NEWAH. This program was specially focused in school level; and radio program was broadcasted aiming to aware the rural people in health and hygiene.
School Latrine
The national data shows that basic sanitation facility is one of the determinants of school drop out of secondary level
girls. Aiming to support in girls' education and contribute for environmental sanitation, GYC has joined hands with NEWAH to run school sanitation program. A school latrine was constructed in 1999 at Lekhaani Higher Secondary School. Similarly, three school latrines were constructed at Lekhaani and Bihun VDC.
Similarly, child-friendly and disabled-friendly school latrines were constructed at Mahendra HSS and Kharuwaa Secondary School in 2002 and 2005. Two taps, one latrine, 1 intake and one water tank were constructed at Gwaalichaur in 2008. Two taps, one latrine, one intake and one tank were constructed at Longaa Lower Secondary School, Jaljalaa in the same year. Disabled-friendly latrine building was constructed at Lekhaani Primary School in 2010 in partnership with Handicap International Nepal (HIN).
Training for traditional healers
A large portion of rural people depend upon the traditional healers till date for treatment. Dozens of rural people lose their lives depending upon the traditional healers in serious health hazards as well. For orienting the traditional healers to refer the patients to the concerned medical person, GYC has organized training in Hatiyaa of Baglung for the traditional healers in 2003 in collaboration with District Health Assistance Program.
GYC has been continuing assisting for success of polio day, vitamin A day and so on since 1998.
